PRODUCT SPECIALIST

Octane Press seeks an outgoing, people-loving, technically-savvy product specialist to be our key external point of contact for vendors and customers of this vibrant, successful company. Regular duties will include filling orders from wholesale customers and distributors, managing information flow to sales rep groups, day-to-day administrative tasks, planning for a few key events each year, author sales and events support, and assisting the publisher and development team in evaluating and testing our new order systems development. Additional weekly hours available on a flexible schedule as a research assistant, creative director, and other tasks as time and talent permits.
The ideal candidate loves books, enjoys a vibrant small company environment, and seeks the advantages of a flexible work-at-home schedule. The candidate needs to be independent, mature, bright, hard-working and detail-oriented. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are vital. Experience with data management and logistics, event planning, invoicing and shipping, and publishing are valuable assets for this position. Strongly prefer candidate based in Austin, Texas.  Great opportunity to learn book publishing with experienced book publisher and a growing, innovative small company. Ideal candidate is outgoing, ambitious, has great communication skills, is highly organized, and has experience in customer service, creative field, or startup. Office is located downtown Austin, Texas.

Job Details

  • Part-time position, 20 hours / week
  • Flexible hours, and ability to work from home
  • $18-28 per hour
  • PTO – 40 hours per year
  • 6 paid holidays (average hours worked)

Junior Media Relations Coordinator
Octane Press is seeking a bright, energetic and engaged media relations person to help our team of experienced professional publicists with media outreach, press material creation, and coordination of  appearances. This is a great opportunity to work with some established professionals and get hands-on experience working with media as well. Pay commensurate with experience. Part-time position. Time per week varies. Prefer Austin-based candidates who come into the office periodically for meetings, planning sessions, and so on.

Copyeditor
Our books all go out to freelance copyeditors. We have a great core of people doing this and would like a few more when the workload gets heavy. You must intimately understand grammar, punctuation, and have experience working with Style guides. Familiarity with Chicago Style and our topic areas are helpful. Minimum requirements are a four-year degree and professional experience editing text for publication. Proofreader
We need a few more eagle-eyed proofers who can catch typos, punctuation, and minor grammatical errors found in final book pages. Minimum requirements are a four-year degree and professional experience proofing text for publication.
