Children's Book STEM Writer

We are actively looking for writers experienced with STEM curriculum to expand our line of children’s books. Topics will be transportation and machine focused, primarily tractors and construction equipment, but also race cars and motorcycles. The ideal writer will be able to grasp machines and mechanics and can present STEM based content with an engaging storyline. Bonus if the writer is an enthusiast for machines, and/or has experience with grade school curriculum. The stories created for the books will need to be fun and educational for the young reader but also detailed enough to satisfy machine-obsessed parents. 

Marketing Graphic Designer

We are looking for a graphic designer to create marketing assets for our books and calendars. Projects will include: materials for website banners, blogs, emails, social media, print advertisements, and possibly event materials. Designer will work with our extensive in-house photography collection to create assets that are consistent, cohesive, and on brand. The ideal candidate is collaborative and fast, supplies camera-ready materials to spec, is an expert in the Adobe Creative Suite, and has professional experience creating marketing materials for print and web.

Graphic Designer for Coloring Book Series

We are looking for a graphic designer to edit and create drawings for a collection of highly-detailed coloring books intended for children as well as adults. The drawings will be created using existing photographs, drawings, and vintage illustrations. In some cases, backgrounds and details may need to be added by the artist. The books are focused on transportation and machines: tractors, bulldozers, race cars, motorcycles, etc. The ideal candidate will translate the photos into detailed line drawings that are easy to color but also provide enough detail on the machine to satisfy machine-obsessed readers. 


Our books all go out to freelance copy editors. We have a great core of people doing this and would like a few more when the workload gets heavy. You must intimately understand grammar, punctuation, and have experience working with Style guides. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and our topic areas are helpful. Minimum requirements are a four-year degree and professional experience editing text for publication. Marketing Copy Writer
Octane Press is seeking a writer to create authentic, captivating copy for our marketing and sales efforts. The candidate will work with our publisher, assistant to the publisher, and publicists to create copy for email marketing, social media posts and marketing, and targetted trade promotion. Ideal candidate has experience writing for advertising and marketing, some understanding of farming and/or machines (or an appetite to learn), and loves books Contract position, can be located anywhere. Pay commensurate with experience.
